D Rigs:-
Ideal bait types:- Wafters, Bottom baits, Balanced baits.
A firm favourite with many anglers including Danny Fairbrass due to the ultra quick reaction of the fluorocarbon, as soon as the carp sucks up your bait the hook will naturally be at the optimum angle to prick the bottom lip.
Often made with 100% Fluorocarbon these Carp rigs are suited for clear lake bottoms. The Fluorocarbon will turn practically invisible in the water to any fish and because of the slightly stiff nature of Fluorocarbon they are anti tangle and self resetting. These Carp rigs work particularly well when the water is clear. Can be fished either on a helicopter system (Heli Safe etc) and also lead clips. Because of the stiffer nature of Fluorocarbon these rigs can be fished at any distance or dropped from a bait boat with confidence.
Slip D Rigs:-
Ideal bait types:- Bottom baits, pop ups, wafters, critically balanced baits
These are normally made with a coated braid with the coating removed till just before the hook to create a hinge which makes the rig really hard for the Carp to eject. The bait is mounted to a bait attachment such as bait screw, micro flexi swivel or a rig ring. The D arrangement on the shank of the hook will allow the bait to slide back when the fish tried to eject the bait, this makes the hook point heavy so will naturally be pointed down to grip the lip. This rig can be used with all manner of baits and will self reset should you get a dropped bite. You can further enhance the mechanics of this rig by adding some rig putty to the braid just where the coating ends.
